Peace Canyon 500kV Control Upgrade

Peace Canyon Generating station is a hydroelectric facility located a few kilometers outside of Hudson’s Hope BC.  Adjacent to the dam is a 500 kV switchyard that has four 500kV circuit breakers, five 500 kV motor operated disconnects, and a 500 KV reactor.  Nextgen was responsible for replacing the old control system with a new system designed to current standards.  New HMI displays, modern alarm systems, and modern RTU devices have been installed and commissioned, ready to provide modern local and remote control for many years ahead.

Along with Site C construction, new transmission lines will be connected between Site C and Peace Canyon’s switchyard.  In the near future this new transmission line will need to have new controls added, and with this modern control room ready, the addition will much easier to integrate.
