Communication, Protection and Control (CPC)

Communication, Protection and Control (CPC)

CPC Technologists are the primary point of contact for CPC clients. They oversee all control room, switchyard and generator instrumentation upgrades & servicing. CPC Technologists play a vital role in the building, operation and maintenance of the power grid throughout the province of BC and abroad.

CPC Testing is conducted by a CPC Technologist who is involved in the installation, maintenance and repair of critical electrical and electronic equipment used for detecting and responding to power system faults, controlling system devices (SCADA), metering, and communications equipment including microwave radio, wimax, and fibre optic links.

CPC Process

Communication Protection and Control Technologists

CPC testing is often required on work sites in isolated locations. Technologists work alongside professional engineers, electricians, contractors, designers and management to complete the work safely and efficiently.

Our team performs installations, testing and commissioning to ensure the CPC systems are functioning properly from the start of the project through to completion. Crews safely integrate new equipment into existing brownfield stations and turn up equipment for new stations in a safe and predictable fashion. We continually review and assess construction documentation throughout each project. Identifying and developing areas for innovation and improvement ensures complete client satisfaction and functionality at project completion and beyond.

Examples of CPC Responsibilities

  • Review of all project documentation for thoroughness and accuracy including schematic drawings, wiring diagrams, protection applications, protection settings, etc.

  • Scheduling including outages and maintenance planning.

  • Testing of all CPC equipment including protection relays and associated SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and communications equipment.

  • Energization and turn up of new equipment.
